Choosing your next step - A discussion on career dilemmas
Do you find it challenging to decide what is the next step that is right for you?
If you are facing a career dilemma such as whether to stay in your current job, move to a different position in your current company, look for a new job or maybe starting your own company…
OR
If you know that you’ve had enough of what you are doing right now but are unsure about what should be your next step, come to the round table I will be hosting at indydevs.
I plan to create a mini-workshop that will help you gain insights and bring you closer to making that decision. You will also get to meet other people with similar dilemmas and help them make their decision.
Sounds interesting?
Pick a question (or more) and share your answer here to initiate the discussion and reserve your spot at the table.
* what is your current dilemma?
* how do you usually make a decision? How have you made a decision in similar situation in the past?
* looking into the future, regardless of what your choice will be what are you not willing to compromise?
* which values would you like to honor when making your choice?
* is there information that you need from other people's experience that will help you in your decision making? If so, go ahead, ask what you need to know...

I've just completed a lengthy tenure in a management position and I'm feeling exhausted. Should I pursue another management role, or should I consider going back to basics and look for senior development positions?
Ohh and I want to join :-)

Hi Efi! Thanks for sharing 🙏 First things first, I hear your exhaustion!! Sometimes the language we use matters. Try changing the phrasing of your dilemma to "Do I want to pursue another management role or do I want to go back and look for senior development positions?" (i.e. use want instead of should) Does it feel feel different? Is it more helpful to you to change the phrasing?

I don’t know what is my next role. I know that I love to lead/mentor empower people, to effect on the work presses and high dev standards which leads to better overall outcomes. I’m not sure that I want to mange people (based on previous experience)

I would like to understand more what it means to be a manager / architect / tech lead in day to day so maybe I will tune myself to another rule direction.

Great chance to understand how do fellow software seniors feel after all these years.
I would like to get other perspectives. As I try to figure out if it's time for a carrier shift.

Since I became the tech lead at my current company, I've spent zero time writing code and I really miss it.
I do enjoy doing requirement analysis and come up with a design for the software solution - but but I miss the action of "getting your hands dirty", which now only happens during emergencies and for bug fixes.
I enjoy mentoring people, but I don't want to manage them or their tasks.
I'd like to join the table to get more insights about other people's situation and decide my next steps :)
